Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should I be concerned about the hardware in my home?

A: Most homes are built with standard, "economical" hardware. If you are looking for elegant, durable hardware that best represents your design style, then try a set from one of series. (back to top)

Q: What's the difference between cast and forged brass hardware?

A: Cast brass is melted and poured into a mould. It is softer, less dense and can contain many imperfections. Cast brass will also not wear as well as forged brass over time.

All Bravura locks are forged. Forging makes stronger, more durable brass with a better finish.

  1. We start with a solid ingot (rod) of brass and heat it red-hot.
  2. Next, the red-hot ingot is put into a polished, metal die and forged (squeezed) into the desired shape using 600 - 1000 tons of pressure.
  3. After the excess metal is cut-off, the forging is inspected, then machined, and inspected again.
  4. Once all the hand polishing and finishing is complete, Bravura locks are ready for years of functional beauty on your home.
